A Mysterious Evening in the Bavarian Forest

Yesterday I wrote about a border crossing walk, this photograph was taken in the same area. We´d returned to the car in the gathering gloom at the end of the day. As the sun set, a mist rose through the trees creating the most mysterious lighting – the trees, the road, the mist all combining into this strange scene. After our walk into the past of the Cold War, I guess it was a fitting end to the day.

Freezing Pond, Bavarian Forest, Germany

After a warm spell, the weather has turned seasonally cold again, with temperatures below freezing – thank heavens, I hate it when it´s hovering just above freezing, neither one thing nor the other. I´ve just spent a few days in the Bavarian Forest, which straddles the border between Germany and the Czech Republic. It´s a beautiful area, with rolling hills, forests (of course), streams and granite outcrops and boulders. This small pond was starting to freeze – it reminded me of a satellite shot of land and sea.
